In todays world when IT departments support multiple operating system two are dominate Windows Server and Linux RedHat Kernal Server. While you will find older versions of Unix technology such as AIX and HP these are reserved for older software solutions.
STEELMAN uses Oracle Technology as its core development, database and application server. While Oracle supports many technologies some are more preferred then others by both companies. STEELMAN will support two operating systems for its SEMS solution for the protection of its customers. Windows Servers 2003/2008 and Red Hat / CentOS Linux 5.
Why does the OS matter? Proven running in real world environments. Every time you change the operation system you must re-test the entire system for performance and functional errors. Staying on limited number of operating systems ensure that client systems are stable and robust.
Oracle database is the world’s number 1 database for midsize business, or large corporate enterprise:
All editions are built using the same common code base, which means your database applications can easily scale from small, single-processor servers to clusters of multi-processor servers without changing a line of code. Compare features below.

STEELMAN uses Oracle Forms, a component of the Oracle Developer Suite, is Oracle’s long-established technology to design and build enterprise applications quickly and efficiently. With a large and active customer base supporting mission-critical, Forms-based applications—including Oracle’s own E-Business Suite—Oracle will support and improve upon Forms technology for many years to come.
Oracle Forms is a member of the Oracle Fusion Middleware family of products, which bring greater agility, better decision-making, and reduced cost and risk to diverse IT environments today.
STEELMAN uses Oracle Forms Developer to build its Graphical User Interface (GUI). Oracle Forms Developer is in a class by itself, raising the development bar for applications deployed to such industries as Banking and Finance, Stocks and Bonds, Aerospace, Communications, Manufacturing, Retail, Health, Legal, Government, and Education. With Oracle Forms Developer, business application developers quickly build, in a declarative RAD environment, comprehensive Java client applications that are optimized for the Internet without writing any Java code, and that meet (and exceed) the requirements of professional user communities. These applications are rich, Web-deployed applications available on demand for rapid processing of large amounts of data and rapid completion of complex calculations, analysis, and transactions.
STEELMAN has started using the current release of APEX 4 for its reporting and business intelligence. Under development is our new B2B so end user customers can login to the system and create orders, check stock, make request for quote and reprint documents. There will also be a management dashboard added on top of the reports in the system. Currently STEELMAN is looking to APEX as it continues to evolve as the possible migration path from Oracle Forms to a fully enable light weight web client.
